Marj Bond is an instinctive and intuitive painter who has had a long association with Compass Gallery. Trained at Glasgow School of Art, 1954-58, Marj is perhaps better known for her more figurative work and depictions of icons, symbols and motifs. This new solo exhibition however, focuses on the more abstract of her recent vibrantly coloured collaged paintings. Her joy of colour coupled with a passion for texture and shape demonstrates in these works strong observational and painting skills, an ability to extract the essentials of image and her ability to constantly experiment and challenge herself. In a fusion of her own Celtic and other early cultures encountered during her many travels, Marj Bond’s work is inspired by the light and colour of her extensive journeys to India, Morocco, Cuba and Mexico. She has exhibited regularly throughout the UK and abroad, and has won many awards and important commissions. She is an elected member of the Scottish Society of Artists and the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour. Her works are found in many private and public collections including Perth Museum & Art Gallery and Edinburgh University.
