Born in Yorkshire, Norman Ackroyd CBE RA (1938-2024) was an artist and printmaker who studied at Leeds College of Art and Royal College of Art, London. He had numerous solo and mixed exhibitions across the UK and USA over many years, and won multiple awards such as the Bradford International Biennale, 1972 and the Frechen Triennale, Germany 1986.
The gallery has had a connection with Norman for a long time, first, through Compass Gallery during his one man show in 1973 when a joint publication of his suite of 12 etchings made for the opening of the Albany Hotel, Glasgow was published. He went on to be a regular exhibitor with Compass Gallery and Cyril Gerber Fine Art.
