Elene Sturua

Born in Tblisi, Georgia, Elene Sturua studied at Edinburgh College of Art, where she graduated from Fine Art in 2025. She currently lives and works in Scotland.

Artist statement:
"Through oil painting, I explore tensions shaped by the post-political realities worldwide, reflecting a sense of liminality in the visual and psychological spaces. My work draws on personal memory, family and cultural histories, literature, mythology, and theatre, collapsing temporal and cultural boundaries. By juxtaposing war symbols with ambiguous, everyday imagery, I create visual friction between power and the disruption of daily life. Figures often engage the viewer’s gaze, challenging isolation and highlighting questions of visibility and power. My work invites reflection on memory and ambiguity as ongoing, unsettled states".
