John Mackinlay : Wester Ross Landscapes and other works on paper

In this new series of works which Mackinlay developed from plein air sketches, he wants to convey the drama and exhilaration of colour as well as the sense of place in a bolder and more expressive manner.

John Mackinlay grew up in India, surrounded by powerful sunlight and bright landscapes. He spent 29 years in the British Army and in his spare time drew and painted in several tropical places, included in this selection of works are some of his strong and colourful depictions from his time in Nepal.

New to Compass Gallery, these landscapes have a refreshing and painterly approach.
