Gregor Smith RSW

An artist in oil, watercolour and printmaking. Gregor Smith was born in Renton, Scotland, and studied drawing and painting at Edinburgh College of Art under Sir Robin Philipson and James Cumming from 1962-66. Smith received a post-graduate scholarship with a highly-commended endorsement which was then followed by a travelling scholarship to Florence and Rome, 1966-7.

From 1968 until 2006 he taught art in various schools in central Scotland. During this time he painted and exhibited in several principal galleries and in the principal annual exhibitions mainly in Scotland but also at the RI in London. In 1983 he was elected a member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour.

Smith has had a number of one man shows including Compass Gallery, Glasgow in 1977, 2016, 2020; Glasgow Print Studio; Lillie Art Gallery, Milngavie; Torrance Gallery, Edinburgh. He also exhibits in the RSA, RSW and Royal Glasgow Institute.

His works are also in the collections of HRH Duke of Edinburgh, Scottish Arts Council; Globus Gateway New York; District Councils of Perth and Kilsyth and the Education Departments of Fife, Lanark and Dumbarton.
